Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue (KVFR) is a combination fire department providing fire protection and emergency services to residents within the City of Ellensburg, City of Kittitas, and the lower Kittitas Valley. The service area has a rich history in agriculture and offers many popular recreation opportunities. A clean environment, small-town charm, a vibrant downtown, and outstanding outdoor recreation characterize the quality of life in Ellensburg.
KVFR is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners and is funded primarily through property taxes and contracts for services. With a 2026 revenue of approximately $12 million, the District operates two career-staffed stations and responds to roughly 5,500 calls annually. Staffing includes 51 full-time positions and approximately 65 volunteer firefighters.
